AV systems merge the room. They don't book it.
Divisible rooms with professional AV integration solve half the problem. The other half is still yours to coordinate by hand, unless something automates it.
The problem
Microsoft Outlook and Exchange have no native way to book divisible conference spaces: rooms separated by operable walls that can open into a single combined suite. Organizations with these spaces face a manual coordination problem: book Room A, remember to block Room B, hope nothing slips. When it does, meetings collide.
This isn't a new gap. The same question has been posted across IT communities for over a decade, and Microsoft MVPs are on record that no native Exchange solution exists. The workarounds offered: complex Exchange Transport Rules, manual mailbox delegation, or a MailTip reminding staff to book two rooms by hand. The most expensive route is replacing Outlook scheduling entirely with a dedicated room-booking platform. Even then, Teams Rooms panels only work if that platform's data syncs back into Exchange. It adds a second system to license and maintain. It doesn't remove the sync requirement.

If you already have AV integration, this still applies to you
Many divisible rooms have real AV engineering behind them: partition sensors that detect when the wall is open, and a control system that merges microphones, cameras, and speakers into one combined experience. That part works.
What it doesn't do is get both rooms into the Teams meeting. Each half of a divisible room runs its own Microsoft Teams Rooms panel, tied to its own Exchange room mailbox and its own calendar. A Teams Rooms panel only joins a meeting that's actually on its calendar. Merging the audio and video hardware doesn't put a meeting on that calendar. So even with a fully engineered AV system, someone still has to remember to book both rooms, every time, or one panel never joins the call.
Reconfiguring the room takes real time
A divisible room doesn't switch from two rooms into one, or back, the instant a meeting starts or ends. Someone has to move furniture, adjust the AV setup, and physically open or close the wall. Book back-to-back meetings with no gap between them, and that reconfiguration either doesn't happen, or eats into the next meeting.

Admins set how long each suite's transition window needs to be, based on how long reconfiguration actually takes for that space, and can adjust it any time a room's setup changes.
